Today, For The First Day, I Feel 30

A hodge-podge Queen's club side played RMC's 2nd division team yesterday. At practise on Tuesday night, we only had 14 players, so I brought my kit, expecting to help out. Now I know I am getting older, and I am well aware that I just had my 30th birthday. This did not really help things however as my competitive nature got the best of me.

The first problem was that a few extra guys showed up for the game, which was great except that it meant that I was going to come off the bench. This is not good for a guy who is getting older and needs more time to warm up, not less. After doing the team warm up at the beginning, I then proceeded to coach by sitting on the side lines in freezing wet weather for 20 minutes before getting in to the game. Lets just say my body was not prepared for playing.

The second problem was that I don't like to lose. The game was tied 0-0 when I got in and we had been playing a lot of defence. If we had been winning by 3 or 4 tries already, I probably could have gotten away without actually working too hard on the field. This was not the case however.

Lastly, RMC felt the need to dress a couple of Canada players. Not really sure why against a development side you would need to do this, but hey, I don't make decisions for them. One of them thought it would be a good idea to engage a scrum early and beat up on a young prop we had playing for us. Needless to say I entered the game with a chip on my shoulder and point to prove.

To summarize the game, we won 10-7. I drew a couple of penalties that resulted in points both times. I got into a little tussle with the guy who was being a goon from the other team. I have a bit of a black eye this morning and I can't move my neck. I had a great time.

And, on top of all of that, I still love playing the game, despite how I feel this morning.

Stay Frosty.
